Borjana Krišto will be the chairperson of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the new mandate of this state-level institution.

The appointment of a member of the Croat Democratic Union (HDZ) in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the first woman to head the Council of Ministers was confirmed today at an emergency session of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Twenty-three MPs voted for the Krišto’s appointment, while 15 state MPs vote against it.

Previously, the BiH Presidency with two votes “for” – Željka Cvijanović (Alliance of Independent Social Democrats – SNSD) and Denis Bećirović (Social Democratic Party – SDP) and one vote against – Željko Komšić (Democratic Front) passed the Decision on the appointment of Borjana Krišto as the Chairperson of the Council of Ministers.

According to the rules, the Chairperson of the BiH Council of Ministers takes office after her appointment is approved by the House of Representatives. After completing this work, Krišto should propose a new convocation of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The candidate for the Chair of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Borjana Krišto (Croat Democratic Union – HDZ), answered today the question of the members of the Commission for the preparation of the elections of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, stating, among other things, that she is determined to respect the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina and laws of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Commission member Milan Dunović (Democratic Front – DF) asked Krišto whether in her work and when proposing candidates for the members of the Council of Ministers of BiH, she will take into account the priorities of BiH on the way to NATO.

Krišto said that she has always been a legalist as an MP and deputy speaker of the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly, as well as when she held other positions in the executive and legislative power and that she respected the Constitution of BiH and all legal acts.

“I don’t want to refer to that from the question because at the moment I don’t know who the coalition parties will propose as new ministers in the BiH Council of Ministers. I only know that during the talks with the coalition partners there was talk about the allocation of portfolios, but who will be proposed in the place of which political options and what conditions and assumptions will be given by all other competent institutions and agencies that are also obliged to take care of compliance with legal acts,” added Krišto.

She reiterated that her commitment is to respect the Constitution and laws of Bosnia and Herzegovina. With this, she answered the only question asked today at the session of the Commission.

The members of the Commission then, with nine votes in favor, recommended the confirmation of Borjana Krišto (HDZ) for the position of chairperson of the BiH Council of Ministers, and the members of the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly should also vote on her appointment today.
