SARAJEVO, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) — Members of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH) State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) said on Monday that it has arrested five people and confiscated some 900 kg of marijuana drug.
The raid happened in the early morning hours on Monday in East Sarajevo, where members of SIPA stopped two trailer trucks and a passenger car with Montenegro plates.
“In the search of vehicles, a large amount of narcotic drug marijuana was found in one truck, packed in several different packages,” SIPA official press release stated.
According to estimates, some 900 kg of marijuana was seized, the largest amount of narcotics ever seized on BiH territory.
The confiscated drugs are intended to be sold on BiH illegal market, where the value is more than 2 million KM (1.17 million U.S. dollars).
During the raid, five Montenegrin nationals are arrested over criminal offenses of organized crime.
BiH, along with other Balkan countries, lies on the route of international drug trafficking linking Western Europe and Asia.
