potocariMissing Persons Institute of Bosnia and Herzegovina said that International Day of the Disappeared is considered especially important in this country because more than 30,000 BiH citizens went missing during the war.

After the war and until today, more than 24,000 remains were found and exhumed after it was found that crimes against humanity and violations of human rights were conducted.

More than 22,000 victims were identified and their remains were given to their families so they could bury them with dignity.

Even though the process of searching for missing persons was evaluated as very successful by many relevant world institutions, there are another 8,000 missing persons in BiH.

“The issue of missing persons is most certainly one of the most important humanitarian issues in this country and there is a difficult and hard task ahead of us. As time passes, the number and reliability of information about the location of individual and mass graves is decreasing.

We call upon and appeal to those who have reliable information about the location of potential graves to make contact with the BiH Missing Persons Institute,” Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Missing Persons Institute, Amor Mašović, said.

Information can also be anonymously disclosed by calling the following number: 080 02 01 07.
