BiH will suffer the first “Punishment” for rejecting the Open Balkan Initiative

Milk prices are expected to rise in Bosnia and Herzegovina(BiH). This is the result of numerous reasons, among others drought, more expensive animal feed and fertilizers, decreasedproduction and difficult import possibilities.

Among other things, the Government of Serbia made a decision to ban the export of raw and pasteurized milk.

Serbia is a significant producer and exporter in BiH, so this will be felt very much in the prices in our country.

It is interesting that this decision of the authorities in Belgrade does not apply to North Macedonia and Albania.

These two countries together with Serbia are part of the Open Balkan initiative. BiH, despite the invitations, refused to be part of this initiative, the goal of which is to remove barriers and facilitate business for businessmen from the countries of the region.

Obviously, Serbia has decided to exempt the countries of the Open Balkan from this ban, and it is possible that it will continue to do so in the future, that is, that it will have different standards for the countries of the region that are part of the initiative and those that are not.

In the first seven months, BiH imported milk and dairy products for 88.7 million BAM.

Out of that, these products were imported from Serbia for about 10 million BAM, Biznis Info writes.
