From January to April this year, Banja Luka Airport recorded 39,376 passengers, more than the whole year 2018 when the airport welcomed 36,180 passengers, the airport’s press statement said on Saturday.

The airport, located some 235 kilometers northwest of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH’s) capital Sarajevo, recorded the highest number of passengers in four months in comparison to the same period last year.

“In the first four months of this year, there were 39,376 passengers, and in the first four months last year, a total of 4,870 passengers, a 716.0 percent increase,” the airport statement reads.

Minister of trade and tourism of Republika Srpska, one of the entities in BiH, Dragica Kovac, said that the development of air traffic contributes to the development of tourism and that Republika Srpska is more accessible to all travelers from large European centers.

The airport authorities say the plan is to welcome 200,000 passengers by the end of the year. If flights to Moscow, Russian capital and parts of Greece are agreed soon, the aim will not remain unattainable.

Currently, Banja Luka airport is connected with Berlin, Belgrade, Brussels, Memmingen and Stockholm.
