police bosnia2Police in Bosnia-Herzegovina have arrested 10 ethnic Serbs suspected of killing dozens of Bosnian Muslim civilians during the 1992-95 Bosnian war.

The detainees are former high-ranking Bosnian Serb police or military figures who are accused of killing as many as 70 civilians from the northeastern town of Zvornik in July 1992.

The suspects, who were not identified, were arrested in an area of the country where ethnic Serbs carried out a notorious ethnic-cleansing campaign during the war that left about 2,000 Muslims dead.

Hundreds are still listed as missing in the region.

Earlier this month, Bosnian authorities arrested 15 former Bosnian Serb paramilitaries and soldiers on suspicion of involvement in the killing of 20 people, mostly Bosnian Muslims, in 1993.

About 100,000 people are believed to have been killed during the Bosnian conflict.
