Armin Maric, a student from Bosanska Krupa, is the first young person from BiH and a whole region that was nominated for the International Children’s Peace Prize, which is also called the ‘Children’s Nobel Prize’.
The International Children’s Peace Prize was initiated by the KidsRights organization during the World Summit of the Nobel Peace Prize 2005 in Rome, led by Mikhail Gorbachev, the last president of the former Soviet Union.
“I am extremely proud of the fact that I am the only child from BiH who was nominated and I believe that my example will open the door to the nomination of other children from our country as well as the region. I took the nomination application very seriously, and I was preparing and perfecting it for weeks until I was happy with its final version at 17 pages in the English language,” said Armin, who is attending the fourth grade of a gymnasium in a small town on the banks of Una River.
This high school student, who devoted his time to various projects and activities, achieved large success last year – he was included on the list of 100 best students in the world and he was named as ‘ecological ambassador’, one of 33 in the world, among several thousands of other young people who also applied for the title.
Armin also participated in World Education Games (WEG), which is the largest international educational competition sponsored by UNICEF. A total of 6.3 million children and young people from a total of 166 countries registered for that competition.
“My active participation in the program of WEG competition resulted in my placement in the 100 best students in the world, and proclamation of my school as one of the top 100,” he said.
Although Armin is going to high school, he is already attending online courses of some of the most prestigious faculties in the world such as Harvard and MIT. He says that he is interested in biology the most.
After high school, Armin wants to enroll medicine, molecular biology, biochemistry or genetics. He is still thinking about whether to stay in BiH or not.
“If BiH can give me an adequate education through my higher education institutions, I am ready to stay in BiH. However, I am ready to seek for knowledge in other countries of Europe and the world as well if I get some great opportunity outside of BiH,” concluded Armin.
