Bosnian donated 68,000 Meals to Migrants

Caterer from Velika Kladusa, Asim Latic, donated a total of 68,000 meals to migrants in his restaurant where he cooks for them for months.

“Back in February, I saw a migrant standing on the snowy street. I asked him if he was hungry, and he said that he did not have any money. I said, “does not matter” and gave him food. He sent the message to his friends and they came the next day as well. There was more and more of them every day, and I decided to close the restaurant. Since then, we are only giving food to migrants,” said Latic.

He recalled the siege of Bihac during the war and noted that citizens of Krajina were in the same situation as these migrants are today.

“Bihac was under the siege for 1,200 days and we feel sympathy for these people,” stated Latic.

Several non-governmental organizations are helping Latic’s efforts to feed migrants, and financial support is provided by the International Organization for Migration. However, he financed their meals with his friends for two months, without any help from others.

“We are war veterans and we know how it is when you have nothing. We know how it feels to be hungry,” noted Latic.

The situation with migrants in Krajina is still difficult, and protests were recently held in Bihac with the aim to address some of the problems.
