SARAJEVO, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) — Bulgarian movie “Aga”, directed by Milko Lazarov, on Thursday night won the Heart of Sarajevo for the best film at the 24th Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF).

The film tells a story of an older Inuit couple, Sedna and Nanook, who are the last members of their ethnic group living on the ice following the tradition of their ancestors. The film captures their life passing through phases of melancholy as the husband and wife witness climate changes around them. Their daughter Aga is their only connection to the outside world, whom Nanook attempts to find since Sedna’s last wish before death is to see her daughter.

Heart of Sarajevo for best actor went to Croatian Leon Lucev for his role in “The Load”, which tells a story of a truck driver, who is transporting a mysterious load from Kosovo to Belgrade during the NATO bombing of Serbia in 1999.

“Thank you. This is the most difficult movie I ever acted in, it is a very difficult movie theme,” Lucev said during the award ceremony in the National Theater in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH) capital.

Heart of Sarajevo for best actress went to Hungarian Zsofia Szamosi for her role in “One Day”, in which she acted as a wife and a middle-class mother of three who is disappointed by her marriage and everyday problems she faces.

Heart of Sarajevo for the best director went to Romanian Ioana Uricaru for her movie “Lemonade”, while the best documentary was given to “Srbenka”, a Croatian movie directed by Nebojsa Slijepcevic.

Some 266 movies from 56 countries and regions were shown at the 24th edition of SFF, which began on Aug. 10. The 24th SFF has recorded more than 100,000 visitors and some 2,600 accredited guests. The last festival day, Friday, is reserved for screenings of award-winning performances in all categories.

Launched in 1995, the SFF has become a major cultural event in the Balkan region.
