Vice President of Republika Srpska Ćamil Duraković announced that he is planning to run for the position of President of Republika Srpska at the General Elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Duraković ran for this position for the first time in the previous elections held in 2022, when he won 13,760 votes and the position of Vice President of Republika Srpska from among the Bosniak people.
Now, Duraković is planning a new candidacy, and he has requested support from parliamentary parties at the level of Bosnia and Herzegovina along with a platform titled “One for All.”
“The ‘One for All’ platform contains concrete legal and constitutional proposals for the 2026–2030 term, structured through 12 thematic areas: equality of communities, equality of language and script, equality in education, equality in security, equality in local self-governance, equality in access to healthcare, equality for generations to come, gender equality, equality and economic growth, equality and environmental protection, equality and access to freedom, and equality of status and the right to remembrance. For most of the proposals, Duraković states that he has elaborated legal solutions, which he previously submitted to the entity authorities through formal initiatives,” Duraković’s office reported.
As stated by the Vice President of Republika Srpska, his plan is to have the parties unite behind his candidacy.
“The submission of this platform is part of the process of gathering coalitions for these elections, in line with the deadlines set by the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina. I believe it is a healthy practice for political parties to see what my platform is so they can decide whether they want to support it. I call upon political subjects to accept this platform also as a framework for post-election negotiations with parties from Republika Srpska. We must underline the key lines and know what we will do after October. This Platform is a roadmap,” Duraković stated.
Regarding the candidates for the position of President of Republika Srpska, the Party for Bosnia and Herzegovina has so far put forward Begija Smajić as its candidate. This party stated that they are ready to cooperate in Republika Srpska with all parties except for the SDP (Social Democratic Party).
According to the Election Law in Republika Srpska, although the institutions of vice presidents of the entity exist, every candidacy is formally for the President of Republika Srpska.
However, as it is expected that a member of the Serb people will be the President of Republika Srpska, the vice president positions go to the candidates from among the Bosniak and Croat peoples who win the most votes.
Therefore, Duraković as a Bosniak, and Davor Pranjić as a Croat, became vice presidents of the entity after the previous elections.
