In Srebrenica, a scandalous gathering on the occasion of farewell to war criminal Ratko Mladić was announced for September 2, and the Srebrenica Memorial Center sent a letter to the leadership of the MUP of Republika Srpska asking for clarification regarding this gathering.
As announced by the Memorial Center, a request for access to information regarding this gathering was sent to the Srebrenica Police Station.
“The memorial center requested information from the police about who is the formal organizer of the gathering, whether the gathering was properly registered, when the registration was received and under which number, as well as a copy of the registration and accompanying documentation,” they said in the announcement.
Information was also requested from the competent authorities on whether any decision, consent, approval, official note or other act was passed in connection with the gathering, and on the basis of which legal provisions the police treat the announced gathering.
In particular, information was requested as to whether an assessment of the security risk and assessment of the legal assumptions for holding the rally had been made, bearing in mind its publicly declared character and the fact that it was dedicated to Ratko Mladić, who was legally convicted before the international court for the genocide in Srebrenica and other war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The memorial center also asked the police for an answer to the question of whether the competent authorities considered possible elements of criminal or misdemeanor liability related to the content and manner of organizing the rally, as well as whether the competent prosecution was informed about its holding.
In the request, the obligation of the competent institutions to take into account the legal provisions related to the prevention of incitement and incitement to national, religious and other hatred and intolerance, the protection of the rights of other persons, the preservation of public order and peace, as well as the possible use of uniforms, insignia and other symbols during gatherings, was specifically pointed out in the request.
“The memorial center expects a transparent and timely response from the Srebrenica Police Station and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Srpska, as well as an action that will be based solely on the law and the obligation to protect the safety of all citizens of Srebrenica,” they pointed out.
Given that the gathering was announced for September 2, the Memorial Center requested that the police, to the extent possible, respond before its holding, at least in the part related to the identity of the organizers, the status of the report and the actions of the competent authorities.
