The Commission for Preserving National Monuments B&H will join the celebration on 18 April, the International Day of for Preserving National Monuments, organized by ICOMOS-International Council on Monuments and Sites.
The topic of this year’s International Day for Preserving National Monuments is ‘Heritage of Commemoration’. The essence of the activities of ICOMOS is the understanding, protection and conservation of those structures, sites and areas tied to history and memory. The value of our cultural heritage is linked with the history of societies and people, and with the arts and sciences that they have developed.
Monuments and places, including the more complex forms such as landscapes, are the material carriers of pieces of the total human experiences. With their credibility and integrity, they contribute to the commemoration and transmission of values that make history.
This year’s selection of topics is partly inspired by the centennial of the beginning of World War One from 1914-1918.
On Trg Djece Sarajevo on 18 April from 12:00 to 13:00, the Commission for Preserving National Monuments B&H will prepare a presentation of a film dedicated to architecture, which occurred during the great wars and memorials tied to the period of WWII. The same presentation will be put on the website of the Commission at www.kons.gov.ba.
