childrenMore than a thousand children with disabilities from the Una-Sana Canton will have the ability to use the services of two centres for the development of inclusive practices in Cazin and Bihac.

The centers will be open as part of the implementation of the Project of services in the community for children with disabilities in the Una-Sana Canton.

The first step towards realization of this goal is the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the 11 authorized institutions of government of the Una-Sana Canton and international non-governmental organization “Save the Children,” which will be held on Wednesday, the 3rd of August, in Bihac.

Children with developmental disabilities  in these centers will have the opportunity to get a comprehensive therapeutic services, as part of support for their regular education. Every center will have an expert mobile team who, together with staff in regular schools, will work on the improvement of inclusive practices.

In the next 3 years, it will be intensively worked through the project on equipping and adaptation of space, recruitment and professional development of staff, providing high quality services for children and their families, as well as raising awareness of the wider community about the importance of inclusion of children with developmental disabilities into society.

The project represents a significant contribution to services for children with developmental disabilities since the centers will provide high quality services that are currently not available to the majority of children with developmental disabilities on the territory of BiH. Also, the project is part of a wider regional initiative of the organization “Save the Children”, and it also being implemented in Georgia, Armenia, Albania and Kosovo.

The project will be realized in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Una-Sana Canton, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Policy of the Una-Sana Canton, the Health Insurance Institute of the Una-Sana Canton, the City of Bihac, and municipalities Cazin, Buzim, Bosanski Petrovac, Sanski Most, Velika Kladusa and Bosanska Krupa.
