What Changes do the Amendments to the Law on Traffic bring?

sudar-saobracaj-kolaps-sarajevo-1-696x456Amendments to the Law on Safety in Traffic in BiH, proposed by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications of BiH and adopted by the House of Representatives of the Parliament of BiH, will enable the introduction of a novelty that should be generally beneficial for the health of all residents and the environment of BiH.

According to Igor Pejić, Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications of BiH and an expert in the field of traffic, the final adoption of the amendments to this law will create preconditions for the reaching of a rulebook on technical inspection and registration of vehicles.

Pejić explains that the plan is to introduce higher prices of registration for older vehicles which are more environmentally inacceptable and which pollute the environment to a larger extent. At this moment, Pejić cannot say what the difference in the price of registration will be for the vehicles that pollute the environment more or less, but he said that it will certainly be enough to stimulate the citizens to opt for buying cars that are environmentally acceptable.

With the final adoption of the new law, speed up to 30 kilometers per hour higher than the allowed speed will be penalized with 100 to 300 BAM, and penalties for exceeding speed limit by more than 30 kilometers per hour will amount between 400 and 1.000 BAM.

The same amount of money will be paid as a penalty in case of rejection of alcohol test and for the degree of intoxication with more than 1.5 grams of alcohol in blood.

Amendments also foresee higher penalties for drivers who use mobile phone while driving, as well as for not using safety belt. Penalties for these offenses will amount to between 100 and 300 BAM. If pedestrians talk on their phones while crossing the street, they will be penalized with 40 BAM because the new law treats that as a traffic offense.
