Chief Advisor at the US Department of Foreign Affairs, Derek Chollet, said that the US is strengthening its commitment to protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
On Monday, he held a meeting with BiH Foreign Minister Elmedin Konaković in Washington.
“I met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Konaković from Bosnia and Herzegovina in order to strengthen the commitment of the USA to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of BiH. We also discussed cooperation on reforms for the Euro-Atlantic path of BiH,” Chollet wrote on Twitter.
Konaković confirmed this for Klix.ba on Monday, saying that during the conversation with Chollet, a new level of commitment of the United States of America to Bosnia and Herzegovina was confirmed.
“It’s really surprising how much they know the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They are very interested in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European path and the next steps. Chollet also announced his arrival in Bosnia and Herzegovina, although he will soon change his job (nominated for the position of undersecretary in the US defense sector, op. a.)”, Konaković said.
Head of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s diplomacy pointed out that the USA understands the problems in BiH, and closely monitors the Russian influence in the Western Balkans, especially in BiH, and that it is very important at this moment in BiH’s European path to have talks with important officials and friends of our country.
