The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) published 12 million previously secret documents.
To recall, the CIA published secret documents in the past as well, and most of them were published in 2013 under the title “Bosnia, Intelligence, and the Clinton Presidency”.
Thus, the CIA closely monitored Josip Broz Tito, Milosevic, and the rise of the Great Serbia policy, the crisis in Kosovo and the breakup of Yugoslavia.
The CIA predicted that there will be war in BiH on the 19th of December 1991.
Back in July 1992, the CIA reported on the possible “death camps” in BiH. To recall, foreign journalists revealed the existence of these camps in Omarska and the surrounding area in August 1992.
At the beginning of the war, the USA was watching the fate of BiH very pessimistically, particularly the Army of RBiH. In the description of the warring parties in July 1993 was stated that the Army of BiH was “very poorly equipped” and that they cannot resist the joint attack of Serbian and Croatian forces.
The CIA estimated that the Army of RBiH had less than 50 tanks, while the Army of the RS (VRS) at that time had between 400 and 750 tanks. A similar ratio was in the other technical means as well.
In mid-1994, in the letter sent to Bill Clinton, it was said that Serbs are insisting on secession two years after the conclusion of peace.
The Americans were firmly against the division of BiH between Croatia and Serbia back then as well and that was not acceptable to them, although Russia, and possibly Great Britain and France, would not have a problem with that solution because they have “always been reluctant to impose a solution to Bosniak people.”
The CIA often reported on war crimes and ethnic cleansing in BiH. Thus, in a document from 1994, it was stated that all parties are carrying out ethnic cleansing, but that Serbs are responsible for 90 % of it.
It was also stated that those people organized persecution and with a clear aim of creating an ethnically pure territory and that they ruthlessly destroyed mosques and Catholic churches. They also ethnically cleansed at least 2,000 cities, towns, and villages.
In the other document drawn up after the end of the war, they described the war crimes committed in BiH.
“Serbs committed the worst crimes… Bosnian Serbs conducted an organized campaign of ethnic cleansing,” as said in the report.
It also said that the government of RS massively imprisoned and killed Bosniaks and Croats, and there are lists of many sites of mass killings of civilians, together with numerous mass graves.
