On the occasion of the devastation of the Partisan Memorial Cemetery in Mostar, a group of citizens gathered in the Association of anti-fascists and fighters of the national liberation war (UABNOR) Mostar, and held a peaceful protest in front of the Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) National Monument on Thursday, saying that the gathering was a voice for freedom, understanding for Mostar and BiH.
”The key thing is for the police to investigate this act of vandalism because this was not done by groups of minors, but by a well-organized neo-Nazi group that has been operating in Mostar for years, led by politicians and protected by police,”said the president of the UABNOR, Sead Djulic.
He reminded that for the first time, the international community reacted to this act of vandalism at the Partisan Memorial Cemetery, expressing confidence that the reconstruction would start this year, but with a protective fence and police security.
Association of Veterans of the Homeland War and Antifascists (VeDRA) from Croatia also supported the citizens of Mostar.
Their president Ranko Britvic pointed out that this unpleasant event is not just an event of one country, one city, but of the entire region, of Europe, and the world.
”This is an unheard-of act of systematically demolishing a cemetery and to me, as an active member of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, no one can say that the perpetrators cannot be identified. People have been destroying this for hours and this is by no means an incident,” Britvic emphasized.
He expressed his belief that the public of this area will be the first to react to this unpleasant event, and then that the institutions will do their part.
”Let’s say ‘no’ to neo-fascism. Coming to this gathering is a vote for freedom, for understanding, for Mostar, for BiH,” they stated from the UABNOR Mostar.
