The city of Mostar refused to give consent to any public expression of support for Israel or Palestine, considering that such statements could create a negative atmosphere in the city, Mostar Mayor Mario Kordić announced on his Facebook profile.
Hamas’s attack on Israel and Israel’s counterattack on Gaza divided Bosnia and Herzegovina’s society, and is part of BiH public supported one side, and part supported the other side in that conflict, Kordić stated in his announcement.
“Although such a division is difficult to rationally explain, it arose and with the support of irresponsible politicians represents a risk for our society as a whole. As the mayor of Mostar, I firmly condemn such policies and call on all those who truly sympathize with all the civilian victims of the war and their families to act be reasonable and stop spreading hatred and divisions,” said the mayor of Mostar.
He added that for this reason he refused to give consent for any form of public emphasis of support for either side.
“In this context, we officially refused in front of the City of Mostar to give consent for any public display of support for Israel and Palestine, precisely because we believe that such acts create a negative atmosphere in our city. We will continue to maintain this position, we will not encourage or support any public gatherings that can further destabilize our society. Let’s be sincerely compassionate and respect the victims of all wars, and let’s stop building political careers on the basis of cheap politics,” said the mayor of Mostar, Mario Kordić.
Earlier, the Bosnian-Herzegovinian-Palestinian Friendship Association and the Palestinian Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina announced that they will organize a support rally for the Palestinian people on Saturday, October 28, in Mostar.
