Cities for Europe campaign was started by the Eurocities network. The aim of the campaign is to involve citizens in a dialogue about the future, to inspire all levels of government to build societies where people come first and to impact the way decisions are taken in Europe.

Ultimately, ‘Cities4Europe – Europe for Citizens’ wants to inspire cities and other levels of government, including the EU institutions, to pursue mechanisms and tools that engage citizens in policy making, strengthening new forms of democracy across Europe.

The City of Sarajevo joined the Campaing ‘Cities4Europe-Europe for Citizens’ and held a panel discussion on the topic “Agreement from Rome, 60 years later, four freedoms in the everyday life of citizens “, as one of the activities within the project ‘Rome and Sarajevo for Europe ‘. The discussion was held at the City Hall and panelists included academician Mirko Pejanović, Azra Hadžiahmetović Ph.D.Econ, Edin Dilberović, Director of the Directorate for European Integration, and Lejla Ramić Mesihović on behalf of the Foreign Policy Initiative, while the moderator was prof. Nedžma Džananović.

The project aim is to raise awareness of the citizens of Rome and Sarajevo on the importance of the four freedoms that have been introduced by the Rome Treaties in 1957, and their contribution to the development of multicultural, democratic and free Europe in which people can live peacefully.

The aim of the “Rome and Sarajevo for Europe” project is to deepen the knowledge about the history of the European Union, promote European values, and increase citizen participation in democratic processes. The project’s goal is also to build a bridge between the City of Rome and the City of Sarajevo, which have different histories, but share European values and prospects.

Within the project activities, training for civil servants is planned in May, while a study visit to Brussels is planned for September.
