Coke Plant in Lukavac to stop Production, Hundred Workers lose their Jobs

The coking plant in Lukavac started the process of irreversible suspension of work this morning, and hundreds of workers are left without work.

The main process of extinguishing the coke battery has been completed and a controlled release of gases is currently being carried out, which should be completed in the next few days. The entire procedure takes place with increased security measures.

The bankruptcy was opened on November 10 last year, when about 200 workers lost their jobs, while more than 500 employees temporarily continued working on technical and security jobs.

After the Assembly of Creditors in the bankruptcy proceedings did not receive any offer for the continuation of coke production, a decision was made to officially shut down the coke battery in Lukavac Koksara.

The company “Pavgord” from Foča, which was a temporary partner of Koksara, is not interested in continuing the work of Koksara.

In parallel with the shutdown process, a model for settling obligations towards workers was also defined. Claims that arose before the opening of bankruptcy, including unpaid wages for October and part of November’s earnings, will be settled as a priority.
