At the public discussion on the Environmental Impact Study for the project of construction of the motorway section on Corridor Vc Mostar North – Mostar South, residents of southern Mostar settlements once again warned that construction of this section would cause eviction of the population from these settlements.

President of the Eco Association ”Kuti” Aner Omanovic mentioned that the construction of this section will leave great consequences on the residents of Kuti.

”The first houses are around 300 meters from the highway, near us, the wind farm Plocno is being built, for which the road passes through our village, quarries are being built, solar power plants, the highway, there is also Uborak, and the city and federal authorities will not help us, they are pushing everything to our place and therefore will lead to the eviction of the locals in Kuti and Vrapcici. We are surrounded on all sides withproblems and I do not know how we will solve them,”Omanovic expressed.

Suada Numic from the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism explained the procedure for issuing an environmental permit, which is underway for this section.

”According to our legislation, it can end with acceptance or rejection, without a positive solution there are no further permits and today we are here for that. This study was preceded by a previous environmental impact assessment because the case was received after the entry into force of the new environmental law, so we first had a request for a preliminary assessment involving the public which we engaged through our website, then sent letters to the general public, the City of Mostar, the Federal Ministry of Spatial Planning, the Federal Ministry of Health, and alike, in order to comment on the possible negative impacts that the construction of this road would have on the environment,”Numic said.

She added that on the basis of that procedure, a decision was issued on the preparation of a study, which included the scope and content that resulted from that previous environmental impact assessment.

”The study has been submitted, and a new procedure has now been launched. Regarding the Study, we are obliged to hold a public debate and that is why we are here today so that everyone who wants to get involved could actually be involved in the decision-making process,” Numic concluded yesterday.
