Mayors from 17 municipalities from BiH, Serbia and Croatia will sign a memorandum of understanding in Brčko tomorrow. The goal is economic development of the border area of “Drina-Sava”, announced the permanent working group for the Rural Regional Development in South East Europe.

The goal of this document is the promotion of mutual understanding and cooperation among interested stakeholders, as well as regional management of the actions to be taken in terms of sustainable economic growth in the “Drina-Sava” area. It expressed willingness and readiness to participate in the process of cooperation and activities with the goal of development of this cross-border region.

The Permanent Working Group for Rural Regional Cooperation in South East Europe is continuing with the activities related to the preparation of the implementation of the development approach based in the area/region in Western Balkan countries, which is supported by the European Commission.

The “Drina-Sava” region is one of four threatened cross-border regions of the Western Balkans where the application of ABDA concept could help overcome obstacles and constraints to further development.

This region covers a territory of Croatia, Serbia and BiH. Geographically, this area is found in the northeastern part of Croatia/Eastern Slavonia, northwestern Serbia/Southwest Vojvodina and northwest central Serbia, and northeast BiH and Semberija.

A total of 17 municipalities, five each from Croatia and Serbia and seven from BiH are present in this region.

The memorandum will be signed in hotel “Jelena” in Brčko, and it is expected that the BiH Minister of Trade and Economic Relations Mirko Šarović and the Mayor of Brčko District Anto Domić will greet the guests.
