A forty three years old Nenad Petrak, an alleged drug lord recently arrested in Turkey, was deported and imprisoned in the Split prison in Bilice on Tuesday, based on a warrant issued by the Split County State Attorney’s Office in another proceeding.

When asked directly by Hina news agency, the Ministry of Justice confirmed that “a person deprived of liberty was admitted to the prison system based on a warrant issued by the County State Attorney’s Office in Split.”

They also point out that in accordance with the Act on the execution of prison sentences, data on the course of execution of prison sentences are an official and professional secret.

Petrak was arrested by the Turkish police ten days ago in Istanbul, and the police suspect him of participating in an international drug cartel that transfers drugs from South America to Europe. Police previously reported that the arrest of the Croatian drug lord followed the arrest of 21 of his associates in October 2023.

Petrak was remanded in custody on suspicion of injuring Josip Čubelić in April of this year in Skalice, Split.

In the coming days, he should be questioned by the state attorney’s office in connection with the shooting of Čubelić, and he is also expected to be questioned in Uskok on suspicion of having founded a criminal organization for the smuggling of large quantities of drugs.
