More than 150,000 people have been evacuated due to flooding in several northern Malaysian states.

Pahang was the latest state to be hit by the floods, with four deaths reported so far.

152,377 people were being evacuated from their homes as of Sunday, state news agency Bernama said.

Kelantan was the worst-hit state, with 96,743 evacuees, according to the National Disaster Management Agency. About 35,000 people were evacuated to Terengganu, while the rest were displaced from seven other states.

The Irrigation and Drainage Ministry said five major rivers were still above the danger level but showing a decreasing trend.

Malaysia’s Meteorological Department warned that heavy rains would continue in Kelantan, Terengganu and Perak.

Floods are common in Southeast Asia due to the northeast monsoon, which brings heavy rains from November to March.
