Croatian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman has responded to the reactions of politicians from Bosnia and Herzegovina to his statements about the formation of a Croatian electoral unit in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Croatian minister asks: “Why the hysteria?”
Grlić Radman said a few days ago that the proposal, which was adopted by the Croatian Parliament, according to which a Croatian electoral unit would be formed in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, does not pose a threat to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Any mention of a Croatian electoral unit should not be perceived as something unacceptable that could eventually lead to the disintegration of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” he said a few days ago.
However, politicians from Bosnia and Herzegovina told him that this is an unacceptable idea that was defeated in the war, and that today’s efforts by the HDZ to further divide Bosnia and Herzegovina are unacceptable.
Grlić Radman responded that he “does not know what the hysteria is about” and that he sees nothing controversial in what he said earlier this week. He also ignored the arguments of politicians from Bosnia and Herzegovina who criticized him and tried to present everything as a “lack of mutual respect”.
“Is equality or equality at issue? Is mutual respect at issue? Is my appeal for the restoration of political trust between the representatives of the three constituent nations disputed? I am appealing for the maturity of political leaders and the establishment of dialogue because the institutional stability and future of Bosnia and Herzegovina depend on their readiness for dialogue and finding a common solution in the letter and spirit of the Dayton Agreement”, Grlić Radman asked.
However, he received a clear message from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina – the formation of new national constituencies is not acceptable and does not fit into the European future of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
