The Chairperson of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željka Cvijanović, told Srna news agency that there is no focus on NATO integration in the foreign policy goals of Bosnia and Herzegovina because there is no political agreement.
Asked to comment on the statement by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, that joining NATO is a priority of BiH’s foreign policy, Cvijanović replied that all that talk, regardless of whether it was said by Minister Konaković or someone else, “is simply not true”.
Cvijanović reminded that the National Assembly of the Republika Srpska (NSRS) several years ago passed acts on neutrality when it comes to joining any military alliances.
“But even before the various turbulences on the global stage, and even before that attitude of the National Assembly of the Republika Srpska, the story of joining the NATO alliance was buried when we were dealing with immovable military property, where it was requested that it be transferred from the entity to the ownership of BiH, that is, the Ministry of Defense “, emphasized Cvijanović.
She stated that it was “the most ordinary trick” that would continue the erosion of the entity’s competences and that is why the reaction of the institutions of the Republika Srpska followed, but also “recognition to whom the property originally belongs”.
“In the meantime, things have changed a lot, and have been further complicated by global events, so I believe that the National Assembly of the Republika Srpska, if it were to reconsider these matters today, would express its position even more strongly on neutrality and on the need to resolve matters both in BiH and in our country through dialogue. region”, said Cvijanović.
