Cvijanovic with Nehammer and Borell: The Main Topic was Candidate Status for EU Membership

Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Presidency Chairperson Zeljka Cvijanovic spoke yesterday in Tirana with the Federal Chancellor of the Republic of Austria, Karl Nehammer, about strengthening cooperation in various areas, and the European path of BiH and the countries of the region.

About investments

At the meeting, it was pointed out that Austria is one of the largest and most important trading and investment partners of BiH, and that numerous Austrian companies are successfully operating in the territory of both entities.

On this occasion, the Chairperson of the BiH Presidency thanked Chancellor Nehammer for the support that Austria provides to BiH in the field of European integration and obtaining candidate status for European Union (EU) membership.

Current political situation

After that, she spoke with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and the Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borell, about the European integration process of BiH, with special emphasis on the prospect of granting candidate status at the December session of the European Council.

At the meeting, the current political situation in BiH was also discussed, and on that occasion Chairperson Cvijanovic pointed out that she expects the Government of the Republika Srpska (RS) to be formed in the next few days, and expressed her expectation that the implementation of the election results at other levels of government in BiH will be quick and efficient.

Moreover, during the meeting, the Chairperson of the Presidency emphasized her commitment to implementing the necessary reform processes in the domain of the European path of BiH, with full respect for the constitutional competencies of the various levels of government and in accordance with the rules of the agreed mechanism for coordinating the European integration process of BiH.
