Within the project of construction of modern covered bike parking lots across Bosnia and Herzegovina, initiated by the Association Giro di Sarajevo and the company Lactalis BH, the fifth and the last bike parking lot was mounted yesterday in Sarajevo, in the yard of the Faculty of Sports and Physical education. Therefore, the project was successfully finalized.
The covered parking lot with the capacity of ten bikes is intended for all cyclists recreationists, primarily students and professors at this faculty, who will have the opportunity to ride bikes more often and engage in one of the recommended healthy habits.
“A very dynamic tempo of life and lack of movement represent an increasing burden for humans. Precisely this institution should develop citizens’ awareness of healthy lifestyle by promoting cycling. One facility like this is always welcome because it enables disposal of bicycles on a safe place,” said Dr. Eldin Jelesković from the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education in Sarajevo.
The project of construction of modern covered bike parking lots was launched in September, when the safest bike parking lots were mounted in Banja Luka, Mostar, Tuzla and Bihać.
“We significantly improved the original solution of the covered bike parking lot for the needs of this project and got one truly exemplary technical solution that can serve as a model for further development of bicycle parking capacities in BiH cities. According to news from Banja Luka, Mostar, Tuzla and Bihać, cyclists often leave their bikes at the recently mounted bike parking lots and I am sure they will additionally encourage citizens to ride bikes more often,” said Damir Margeta, advisor for infrastructure in the Association Giro di Sarajevo and author of the conceptual design.
In the past period, with the aim of promoting the parking lots the members of Giro di Sarajevo rode bikes on demanding routes from Sarajevo to Banja Luka, Mostar, Tuzla and Bihać, at the same time promoting the natural beauties of BiH. At yesterday’s promotion they presented the best city routes that recreationists can use in winter period, and gave some useful advice for riding bikes during colder periods.
“We are very proud, all of us in Giro di Sarajevo, of the project that we implemented with the company Lactalis BH. We will strive to bring these parking lots in as many cities as possible in the future and raise the traffic culture to a higher, European level,” said Nisad Selimović, president of the Association Giro di Sarajevo.
