The B&H film director, Oscar winning Danis Tanović has received the award EU Prix Media 2014 for his next film “Šta gledaš?”.
The prize Prix Media is awarded to writer and producer of the film project that has the best potential at the box office. The previous winners were Asghar Farhadi 2012 and Thomas Vinterberg in 2013.
Androulla Vassiliou, EU Commissioner for Education, Culture, Sports, Media and Youth will award this prize to Tanović. The celebrated B&H director, co- writer Predrag Kojović and the producer Amra Bakšić Ćamo will received the prize on Saturday at the Cannes Film Festival.
The story of this film is set in Sarajevo and deals with the increase of crime and corruption 20 years after the end of the war in former Yugoslavia. The film describes the story of two young men who are in conflict with the brother of the most powerful city criminal.
Tanović has achieved the biggest success in 2001 with his first film “Ničija zemlja” (No Man’s Land) which was awarded with an Oscar. The scenario of that film was announced as the best one at the Cannes Film Festival the same year.
His last creation “Epizoda u životu berača željeza” (Episode in a life of an iron picker) won the Jury’s Prize and the Silver Bear at the 63 International Film Festival in Berlin.
