The Day of the Armed Forces of B&H and the 10th anniversary of its establishment were marked yesterday with a ceremony lineup of commands and units of the Armed Forces of B&H (OSBiH) at the Barrack “Rajlovac” Sarajevo, in presence of representatives of B&H authorities, international officials and members of diplomatic corps, and numerous other guests and invitees.
Participants of the ceremony were greeted and congratulated on the occasion of this significant anniversary by the Chairman of the Presidency of B&H Dragan Čović, highlighting the importance of achievements that the OSBiH made in a relatively short period as an organizing model that can be a stimulus to all other institutions in B&H.
“I am deeply convinced that precisely the existing challenges will lead us forward also when it comes to arranging the judiciary in B&H, to make this a truly legal state, to stabilize B&H economically and socially in the same way, and to continue our way towards the Euro-Atlantic integration,” said Čović, highlighting that in a very short time B&H will submit a credible application for membership in the EU.
At the same time, Čović expressed expectation that already in June a step will be made regarding the Membership Action Plan for NATO, believing that it is the only path for B&H without an alternative, and the one which precisely the OSBiH made the greatest contribution to.
Chief of the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces of B&H, Lieutenant General Anto Jeleč, also congratulated the Day and the 10th anniversary of the OSBiH, reminding of the key elements of the Mission of OSBiH in the country and abroad, oriented towards promoting democratic processes, stability in the region and establishment and keeping of peace in the world, as well as improving civil-military cooperation i.e. helping the population in responding to crisis situations.
Readiness and determination to keep going with positive trends within the reform of defense were also pointed out by the Minister of Defense of B&H Marina Pendeš, who stated that in its 10-year-long operation the Armed Forces of B&H have become a respectable factor of peace in this part of Europe, and also recognized as a factor of stability on global plan in partnership with the coalition forces.
The ceremony organized on the occasion of the Day of the Armed Forces of B&H and the 10th anniversary of its establishment was also an opportunity for presenting awards and recognitions to the most prominent individuals – members of the defense structures of B&H, which was done in accordance with the orders by the Minister of Defense of B&H and the Chief of Joint Staff of the Armed Forces of B&H.
