zastava-bihThe flag of B&H was adopted on 4 February 1998, replacing the one that was used during B&H’s independence.

B&H is the only country that changed its flag four times in the 20th century, and every new flag had no continuity with the previous one. The proposal was made by Carlos Westendorp with minor modifications, who from 1997 until 1999 represented the international community as the High Representative of the UN in B&H. He was a Delegate of the European Parliament from 1999 until 2003.

After the failed agreement in the Parliament of B&H, under the authority of High Representative of the UN, Carlos Westendorp Cabeza decided on the current design of the B&H flag.

The flag consists of a dark blue part with a yellow triangle. Along the hypotenuse of the triangle, there are nine white stars.

Firstly, the light blue color of the flag was the color of the UN. However, it was decided to use dark blue, corresponding to the blue flag of the UN.

The three corners of the triangle represent the three constituent people of B&H: Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats. The stars represent Europe.
