High Representative Valentin Inzko welcomed the US Diplomat, Dennis W. Hearne, who took over the duty of the new first Deputy High Representative and supervisor for Brcko Distrikt.
“The United States of America demonstrated and reaffirmed their determination and continuous support for the implementation of peace in BiH, as well as my office, by appointing experienced US diplomat with an extraordinary career, Dennis Hearne. It is my pleasure to welcome Mr. Hearne to the position of my first deputy in OHR. I believe that we will give a significant contribution and help BiH to achieve its strategic goal of joining Euroatlantic integrations,” said the High Representative.
Before his arrival to BiH, Hearne performed the duty of Deputy Head of Mission at the US Embassy in Afghanistan. He was also the Senior Advisor to the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, the Ambassador Thomas A. Shannon.
Hearne, as stated from OHR, has rich experience in the area of Western Balkans, since he worked in Croatia and BiH in the period between 1993 and 1996. After that, in the period between 1996 and 1998, he worked for the International Criminal Court for ex-Yugoslavia.
In the year of 1985, he started his diplomatic service and he worked in Brazil, Portugal, as well as a number of mandates at the State Department’s Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs and the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs.
Dennis W. Hearne is from North Carolina. He has a master’s degree in national security strategy from the National War College, and he graduated from Wake Forest University. He speaks Portuguese and he studied local languages in BiH. He is the winner of the State Department’s Superior Honors Award seven times, and he was also awarded the Medal for Outstanding Civilian Service by the US Army.
