The Permanent Representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Sven Alkalaj signed the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis.

The document was signed at the premises of the Permanent Mission of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the United Nations in New York.

On behalf of Saint Christopher and Nevis, the joint statement was signed by Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Sam Terence Condor.

In the talks following the signing ceremony of the Joint Statement, the two officials exchanged views on the potential for enhancing and intensifying bilateral cooperation, as well as on current topics within the UN, emphasizing the unquestionable support for multilateral efforts to fully realize the 2030 Agenda, ie achieving the 17 Sustainable Objectives development, with particular emphasis on activities to prevent climate change.

Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis, is an island country in the West Indies. Located in the Leeward Islands chain of the Lesser Antilles, it is the smallest sovereign state in the Western Hemisphere, in both area and population. The country is a Commonwealth realm, with Elizabeth II as queen and head of state.

The capital city is Basseterre on the larger island of Saint Kitts. The smaller island of Nevis lies approximately 3 km (2 mi) to the southeast across a shallow channel called The Narrows.

The British dependency of Anguilla was historically also a part of this union, which was then known collectively as Saint Christopher-Nevis-Anguilla.

However, it chose to secede from the union and remains a British overseas territory.

Saint Kitts and Nevis were among the first islands in the Caribbean to be colonized by Europeans.

Saint Kitts was home to the first British and French colonies in the Caribbean, and thus has also been titled “The Mother Colony of the West Indies”.
