Bosnian Theater Tešanj opcina-tesanj.baDo you know where and when was the first theater performance in Bosnia and Herzegovina?  Most people in our country do not know the answer to this question, but in Tešanj it is a part of the general culture. In this city, 150 years ago, a local teacher Stevo Petranović staged the first play, together with performing arts enthusiasts.

People of Tešanj are proud of their rich history and cultural heritage, and love for the theater has remained a part of them, weaved to this day.

Those who preserve the tradition are the actors of the Bosnian Theater Tešanj, mainly young people who are doing this work non-professionally, out of pure love.

They are proud of a number of individual and collective awards won before the beginning of the aggression on Bosnia and Herzegovina. They continued working throughout the war period, with the aim to help their fellow citizens to distract themselves from the horrors of war and suffering.

“The Bosnian Theater has a soul, thanks to members who strive to keep the theater working continuously. Since 2003, the Bosnian Theater Tešanj has been rising like a phoenix and slowly but surely, beginning the active work, recruiting new members and performing a large number of plays. Even after the war we won a number of awards on festivals, and we believe that we will continue to achieve significant results”, said a member of the Bosnian Theater Tešanj, Selma Prnjavorac.

He emphasizes that every family in Tešanj is making its contribution to the work of the theater.

“In addition to the amateur actors, who approach each play passionately and with a pure heart, we have costume designers who help us, work together with us and win prizes in competitions with us, then there are set designers, as well as the Center for Culture and Education”, said Prnjavorac.

He specifically mentions the Tešanj businessmen who provide financial support for the theater, as well as the Tešanj Municipality. They all help to preserve the long theater tradition in this city.
