Ease the Conditions for BiH for participation in the Membership Action Plan!

bih-natoThe Center for Security Studies of BiH (CSS) sent an initiative to the Secretary General of NATO Stoltenberg and all the ambassadors of the North Atlantic Treaty Council, to ease the conditions for Bosnia and Herzegovina for participation in the Membership Action Plan (MAP), despite the unresolved status of immovable military property.

The Center believes that if NATO accepts this initiative, BiH could start timely activities on defining and adjusting the first Annual National Program of MAP, whose implementation could begin in September this year.

They also argue that the reason for such an initiative coincides with a new approach of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina, which by redistributing priorities has eliminated obstacles in activities in the EU accession process.

“The prerequisites for any activity in the field of the European Union accession were conditioned by the implementation of the judgment of the European Court in the case Sejdić – Finci.

They find that a new approach to the EU does not grant amnesty to the authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina from implementing the said judgment, but it relaxes the atmosphere in terms of BiH’s path to the European Union.

The initiative of CSS suggests that the status of immovable property is handled in parallel with other activities of the Annual National Program of BiH within the Membership Action Plan (MAP).

“In the past four years, by not resolving the immovable military property issue, BiH has considerably stagnated on the path to NATO accession.

The positive response from the competent authorities of NATO on this initiative would be an incentive to BiH institutions, but also to the society as a whole to intensify activities leading to full membership in NATO,” it is said in the statement.

The CSS today informed the BiH Presidency on the content of this initiative.
