13020619_1760698890833454_833957412_nEmina Hotic from Sanski Most, on a recently held Bosnian Science Olympiad in Sarajevo, won the first the place for her invention of robot for cleaning vertical glass surfaces. Emina, among other things, revealed how she got the idea for this project, how and in what way would her robot function, whether she got contacted by potential sponsors, and whether she plans to go abroad or stay in our country.

Emina emphasized that she spent a lot of time thinking of a problem that should be solved in our community.

“I noticed that window cleaning can be demanding and time consuming. I wondered how hard it is just to clean the glass facades on very tall buildings. Through the research I found out that the maintenance of these facades is very demanding and expensive. The number of glass surfaces in buildings is growing year after year and it is becoming an indispensable part of modern buildings. Skyscrapers are being built more and more in the world, with many floors, so this problem is becoming more important every year. This kind of work is dangerous to human life due to great heights and curved glass surfaces but it gave me the idea to make a robot that will perform the cleanup, and the man will manage with it, which means that people will not lose their jobs because of the machines,” says Emina.

“The robot will have a relatively small volume so that it can access the most demanding positions on the facade. Due to the combination of metal and plastic, we can expect durability, flexibility, simple usage and maintenance. It will use easily available parts so that the eventual replacement of parts can be made quickly and inexpensively. The advantage is that this approach to design brings many benefits, with the most prominent being: increased product sales, competitive advantage, unique image, quick insight and remembering of customers, keeping their memory and unique positioning, “says Emina.

Emina plans to satisfy the environmental aspect of the product by installing a small photovoltaic system that will charge the electric battery. Thus, she plans to prevent emissions and eliminate dependency on electricity from other sources during the operation.

Emina says that she has not had a concrete offer regarding financing of the project, and that she aims to show that this robot is going to be a very good product in the real world. Her next step is finding investors.

Consequently, Emina finally notes that young people need to invest more in themselves to improve their knowledge and skills, and in their spare time attend courses, seminars, educational training on various topics, all aimed to increase their chances of employment.
