The European Union Force (EUFOR) patrol conducted a swift and coordinated rescue operation yesterday after a severe road accident on the Gračanica–Tuzla road.
On May 8th approximately 2 PM, EUFOR Patrol on duty, belonging to the Turkish and North Macedonian Army, rescue a occupants of Volkswagen Golf vehicle that lost control between the 24th and 25th kilometers of the roadway, veering off the road and striking nearby trees near a roadside culvert. The vehicle ended up positioned diagonally, with two occupants – one male and one female – being partially submerged in approximately 40 to 50 centimeters of flowing water within the culvert.
Witnessing the distress of the vehicle’s occupants, EUFOR patrol members quickly responded to the scene. The two individuals were attempting to extricate themselves from the culvert, fearing the vehicle could slip further or collapse. A group of civilians also responded, attempting to stabilize the vehicle by holding it by its wheels to prevent further movement.
Given the potential for injuries, particularly to the female occupant who was suspected to have sustained fractures, EUFOR rescue teams exercised caution. Using a ladder as a makeshift stretcher, they carefully secured and extricated the female from the culvert, ensuring her safety and minimizing risk of additional injuries.
EUFOR remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents on the roadways. We commend our personnel for their prompt response and effective teamwork in this life-saving operation.
