European Union Leaders decide on future Leaders

The Council of the European Union started a summit today to decide who will fill the highest positions in the European Union and to sign security agreements with Ukraine.

The two-day summit comes after European citizens cast their votes to determine the composition of the European Parliament in early June, with right-wing parties winning more seats but not control.

The agenda of the summit includes issues such as military aid to Ukraine, the vision for the next five-year mandate, the situation in the Middle East, migration, defense and security, and the highest positions in the bloc.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on the X social network that he will sign three security agreements, including one with the European Union as a whole.

“For the first time, this agreement will reinforce the commitment of all 27 member states to provide comprehensive support to Ukraine, regardless of any internal institutional changes,” he said.

In an address with Council President Charles Michel, Zelenski thanked the EU for its decision to open negotiations with Ukraine, AA writes.
