The action “Meta”, which was carried out these days by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, once again imposed the issue of legalization of cannabis oil for medical purposes.
Namely, the story about the legalization of cannabis for medical purposes in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has been going on for seven years, and according to the member of the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliament Sasa Magazinovic (SDP), the process is so frustrating that it showed all the sluggishness of politics and administration in our country, Klix.ba writes.
“The recommendation of the World Health Organization (WHO) addressed to all member states is to legalize cannabis for medical purposes, and the European Parliament recommended the same thing to the member states of the European Union(EU). So, this is not our experiment, it is simply a global trend in medicine that should be followed on the recommendation of the WHO, “ mentioned Magazinovic.
According to him, the urgent legalization of cannabis oil for medical purposes is necessary because it is a medicine and salvation for many.
The process is too slow
Magazinovic emphasized that the legalization process is too slow and that more awareness is needed about the urgency of this situation.
“Last year, I spoke with the chairman of the Council of Ministers, Zoran Tegeltija, who supported the legalization of cannabis for medical purposes. He promised that the Council of Ministers would appoint a member of the Commission for the Suppression of Narcotic Drug Abuse. Indeed, Tegeltija convened an extraordinary session, where it was done at the end of May. And then from May to October, the decision was expected to be published in the official gazette. From October until today, a session of the commission is expected to be convened on a topic where there is general agreement, “ he stressed.
Legislative changes concerning the legalization of cannabis for medical purposes are a big job, but it is not a job that cannot be done, considering that some countries in the region have already done that.
Legislation should be aligned
A document entitled “Decriminalization of Cannabis for Medical Purposes in Selected European Countries” of the Research Sector of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH (PABiH), published on the official website in 2018, says that “many scientific studies and clinical research have shown that this plant can help treat a wide range of medical conditions.”
