malineThree years ago, the project for the development of raising raspberries in municipality Prozor-Rama, thanks to the local municipality and UNDP, has shown to be very successful for many reasons. The development of agriculture has enabled self-employment and livelihood for many families.

The family of Amir Kulaglić is already picking raspberries that will tomorrow be on the markets of EU states. Thanks to the project ‘value chains of employment’, he planted raspberries on an acre and a half and the placement of the entire crop is guaranteed. He is satisfied with the entire price-3 KM per kilogram. He said that if this were to expand, he would be able to make a living off of this.

Until now, there are 6,6 hectares of land for raspberry plantations, and currently 45 farmers are engaging in this area. It is all exported thanks to the purchaser-to the company “Šumski plod’’, which sells them on the market both fresh and frozen. It is said that currently on the market, raspberries from northern Herzegovina are the best ones and are on the shelves in Slovenia and Austria.

‘’53 interested farmers have been registered. Their selection will be made these days. Around 40 acres will be planted, and the plan is for 20-30 users’’, said Stipo Čuljak, head of the Department of Agriculture in municipality Prozor-Rama.

The area of municipality Prozor-Rama has the ideal conditions for the growing of raspberries. Increased state support would be welcome, if a larger number of farmers would be able to engage in this area. This would provide a decent source of income for themselves and their families.
