Exceptionally High Salaries of over 2,000 Euros for Members of HoR who do not Hold Sessions

Members of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina will receive exceptionally high salaries for the nine months, despite the fact that they did not do anything.

During months after the elections in BiH in October last year, there was no session of the House of Representatives, which has 42 members from 14 political parties. The work of the state body of the legislature is blocked by the members of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) because of the non-appointment of a new chairman of the BiH Council of Ministers.

Nevertheless, the fact that there were no sessions held will not prevent state parliamentarians from taking salaries.

The average salary of members is around 4.000 BAM, some 2,046 Euros. At the same time, according to the latest data from the Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina from October 2018, the average salary of employees was 894 BAM, meaning that MP earns 4.5 average salaries of “ordinary” workers.

During January 2019, only two state deputies in the parliamentary procedure had submitted proposals for amending the law. It is a representative of SBB party Damir Arnaut who proposed the Law on Amendments to the Salaries and Remuneration Act in BiH Institutions and representatives of the Independent Block Aida Barucija who propsed the Bill of Amendments to the Excise Law in BiH, Klix.ba news portal reports.
