Exhibition Between four Walls – No Excuse For Gender Based Violence

Taking part in the global 16 Days of Activism campaign, last evening, Europe House opened a compelling exhibition – “Between Four Walls”. The exhibition, organised in cooperation with the Embassy of Spain in BiH and Gothe Institute aims to provoke conversation on gender-based violence across BiH society and remind us all of the collective obligation to work harder on eliminating violence against women and girls.

The exhibition authors, Aida Redžepagić, award winning photographer, and Kristina Ljevak Bajramović, award winning media professional, present photographs and testimonials of everyday life and situations faced by almost every second woman in this society. The exhibition opens the fourth wall and invites the audience to witness the consequences of gender based violence.

Elizabeth Tomasinec, Head of the Political Section of the EU Office in BiH opened the exhibition and reminded the audience that “The European Union is very vocal and clear when it comes to this – there are no excuses and we will continue to support every effort to prevent these horrific acts from happening.” Tomasinec noted that “The whole society needs to step up, and authorities still need to improve legislation on gender based violence, implement it vigorously, improve prevention and response systems, and invest more. This powerful and evocative exhibition calls upon all of us to be more vigilant, to be louder and have more empathy. There is simply no excuse for gender based violence! “

The unique way of portraying the photographs and deep stories, through white boxes hanging from the ceiling, invite the audience to step between the four walls, discover the artwork but also the hidden stories. The authors noted that the exhibition is more than a visual experience, rather, it presents an invitation to enter the world of victims of gender-based violence, to feel their pain, but also the strength with which they cope with challenges.

Between Four Walls is the latest exhibition in the Europe House Presents series, a new concept of cooperation between the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina and contemporary authors who have an opportunity to exhibit their works in a gallery located in the heart of Sarajevo. So far, within this concept, three exhibitions of works have been presented as part of the international Sarajevo Photography Festival, the Green Route to Sustainable Tourism exhibition presented by the EU4BusinessRecovery, project and Tolerance by Mirko Ilić.

Exhibition “Between Four Walls” is open to citizens from Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00 in Europe House (Maršala Tita 62, Sarajevo).
