yunus emreThe exhibition “Turkey and World War I” was organized in Sarajevo by the Archives of the Federation of BiH to honor the national holiday of the Republic of Turkey and BiH and friendship between people of these two countries.

Director of Archives of the Federation of BiH Adamir Jerković said that Ottoman Empire was present in area of BiH for nearly five hundred years.

”Of course, it left a strong mark on people’s lives. Turkey and BiH are connected in many ways, as they have shared centuries of common past,” he emphasized.

He also emphasized that most residents of BiH had difficulty accepting retreat of Ottoman people from this area.

”Significant number of Bosniaks fought on Ottoman side in World War I and that shows how strong connections between people of the two countries are. That is especially visible in Battle of Gallipoli,” he said.

He added that according to some sources, around 20.000 Bosniaks participated in that battle.

”The course of the Gallipoli Battle, which was led from April 25 1915 to January 6 1916 is displayed in the exhibition of Archives of the Federation of BiH,” he said.

He said that this exhibition, which is dedicated to friendship of people of BiH and the Republic of Turkey, was not organized on October 29 by accident, on the day which is solemnly marked in Turkey in memory of great sacrifices for independent and free Turkey.

However, as Turkey strongly developed in the past decade, they added three more exhibits named “Modern Turkey”.

Exhibition will be opened for ten days.
