Michelangelo_Pistoletto_EPAOne of the world’s most famous contemporary artists from Italy and one of the founders of the movement Arte Povera is visiting Sarajevo again.

Michelangelo Pistoletto is arriving on the occasion of the Day of the Republic of Italy on June 2, and this famous artist will present himself with the artwork Terzo Paradiso or the Third Paradise.

Terzo Paradiso should be presented on June 2, at Skenderija Plateau in Sarajevo. Curator of Pistoletti’s work in Sarajevo is Manuela Gandini, who will use this opportunity to give an introductory lecture, and the organizer of the visit is the Embassy of Italy in Sarajevo.

This painter, installation artist and theorist, already visited Sarajevo twice.

Michelangelo Pistoletto is known in Sarajevo as the first artist who gave his work to Ars Aevi Collection and thus had an important role in the development of this great artistic project. It is the work La Porta dello Specchio from collection Milan, whose curator is Enrico Comi.

Michelangelo Pistoletto was born in 1933 in Biella. He started to exhibit in 1955, and he held his first solo exhibition at the gallery Galatea in Turin in 1960. His work Quadri specchianti represents the basis of his subsequent artistic creativity and theoretical thinking. In the period from 1965 to 1966, he created a series of works called Oggetti in meno, which are believed to represents the basis of the formation of the artistic movement Arte Povera, in which Pistoletto has a major role. He received the award Leone d’Oro alla Carriera (Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement) at the Venice Biennale in 2003. The University of Turin awarded him an honorary doctorate in political science in 2004. On this occasion, the artist announced a new phase of his work called Terzo Paradiso (the Third Paradise).
