ZGRADA-FEDERALNE-VLADEIn a period when an increase in prices of water and electricity are threatening us and when we should pay attention to rational use of energy sources, projects for energy efficiency, implemented by the Environment Fund of UNDP within the project “Increasing energy efficiency in public facilities in FBiH territory”, are putting efforts in contributing to the advancement of the situation in environment protection and reduction of greenhouse gases.

The Environment Fund has a budget of 3.5 million BAM for 2014 and it will be used for multiple long-term, short-term, economic, ecology and social benefits and it will contribute to implementing plans and goals on all government levels in BiH in the sense of a more responsible relationship towards environment and a more rational management of energy.

The Fund is operating in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources as well as financing projects in the field of energy efficiency equipping of non-residential public facilities and greatest individual energy consumers and consumers of budget assets, said the BiH Environment Fund.

In order to implement certain activities, the Fund announced a public tender for all levels of government for submitting reports on public spending so it could identify potential facilities for energy savings.

Main activities of the program “Increasing energy efficiency in public facilities in the FBiH territory” include: making a list of public facilities and establishing an information system for energy management, education of employees and inspection of facilities in terms of energy efficiency, implementing infrastructure and informing the public about the results.

This program will result in making lists of all facilities owned by local and cantonal authorities and it will establish a continuous monitoring of energy spending. It will also decrease energy consumption and reduce harmful effects on the environment.

Up until now, four non-residential facilities received approval for implementing infrastructure measures for energy efficiency since inspection of these facilities was earlier conducted. The cost of implementing measures for these four facilities is 600,000 BAM.

After completing infrastructural operations regarding thermal isolation of the façade and ceilings, replacing external hatches, windows and lighting, reconstructing the heating system and replacing heating oil with ecologically acceptable fuels such as biomass, it is estimated that energy consumption will be decreased by 50 to 70 percent.

The total amount of energy savings in these four facilities will be at 2.63 kWh/BAM.
