The Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has adopted the conclusion of the Federal Minister of the Interior Aljosa Campara on initiating the constitutional review of Article 14 of the Law on Citizenship of Bosnia and Herzegovina before the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Minister Campara requested that the BiH Constitutional Court take a position on the constitutionality of Article 14 of the Law on Citizenship of Bosnia and Herzegovina in order to enable the acquisition of BiH citizenship for 93,000 citizens who were forced to renounce BiH citizenship within a certain period of time, to return to their native citizenship under favorable conditions, Klix.ba writes.
In his speech at the session of the Government of the Federation of BiH, Minister Campara pointed out that state institutions have officially informed the federal level that foreign countries that have liberalized their citizenship laws do not show the slightest interest in concluding bilateral agreements on dual citizenship with our country, and initiate the constitutional review procedure as soon as possible.
“Article 9 of the Law on Citizenship of BiH prescribes extremely difficult conditions for the return to BiH citizenship of our former citizens who had BiH citizenship by origin, although BiH was obliged to regulate in its national legislation the institute of return to BiH citizenship. facilitated conditions, “said Minister.
It should be noted that all countries in the region in their citizenship laws have eased the conditions for returning to the citizenship of their former citizens.
