12421783_1141396769244611_1029801774_nIt is prohibited by Law to use the GMO and/or products that contain and/or consist of or derive from GMO as food, animal food, excipients in the manufacturing process, plant protection products, fertilizers, soil improvers, vegetative propagating material and seeds for cultivation, and micro-organisms and animals in organic production.

Government of the FBiH adopted the Draft Law on organic agricultural production which prescribes the objectives, principles and rules of production, labeling of organic products, control system in organic production, registry of subjects, administrative and inspection supervision, import, export and marketing of organic products, violations, and other issues of importance to this area.

For the FBiH, the adoption of this law is primarily aimed at the legal regulation of the field of organic production in order to ensure conditions for the development of this sector in accordance with the changes that occurred in agricultural policy, production and on the marker, and to fulfill the longtime requests of subjects who are dealing with organic production in BiH.

The provisions of this Law shall apply to products of agricultural origin derived from all phases of organic plant and animal production, including aquaculture, when such products are placed or intended to be placed on the market of the FBiH.

Those are raw or unprocessed agricultural products, processed agricultural products intended for use in food, aquaculture products, animal feed, vegetable propagating material and seeds for cultivation, and yeasts used as food for humans or for animals. The provisions of this Law shall apply to all entities registered for the performance of some of the activities related to organic products involved in activities at any stage of production, preparation and distribution at the territory of the FBiH. Products obtained by hunting wild animals and fishing in open waters are not considered products of organic production.

In order to prove compliance with these prohibitions, the entity is obliged to follow and can rely on the labels on the product or any other accompanying document attached or enclosed in accordance with special regulations governing the placing on the market of GMOs and/or regulating GMO food and animal feed. The user may consider that GMO and/or products containing and/or consisting of or derived from GMO are not used in the production of purchased food and feed when not marked so, except in the case of obtaining information which indicates that the labeling of such products is not done in accordance with the regulations.

When buying such products, users of organic products, other than food or feed, are obliged to seek confirmation from the supplier that the products delivered are not GMO and/or containing and/or consisting of or derived from GMO.
