Preliminary damage from the recent floods that hit the Sanski Most municipality has been estimated at 2.2 million convertible marks – it was said at today’s session of the Crisis Staff. Due to the presence of groundwater and the possible occurrence of landslides, it was decided to extend the state of natural disaster, which was declared a few days ago.

According to initial estimates, about 200 households were threatened by the floods, while direct damage was recorded in 45 residential buildings. In addition, significant damage was sustained by infrastructure facilities, agricultural land and bridges, with eight bridges requiring urgent repair.

The Mayor of the Sanski Most Municipality Mensur Seferović said that the session of the Crisis Staff was dedicated to analyzing the consequences of the floods and assessing the current situation.

“The Commission met and according to preliminary results, the damage amounts to about 2,200,000 BAM. We considered the possibility of lifting the state of emergency, but we concluded that the conditions for this have not yet been met. The municipal budget provides for emergency funds for such situations, and today we have sent a request to the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Government of the Una-Sana Canton for additional financial assistance. Also, a certain number of foreign donors and non-governmental organizations have expressed their willingness to help, about which we will inform the public later,” said Seferović.

According to the mayor, the greatest damage was recorded on the bridges, where eight bridges will need to be repaired or reconstructed. Also, about 50 kilometers of macadam roads and 100 meters of asphalt road were damaged.

The damage assessment commission continues to tour the terrain in order to determine the exact extent of the consequences that the floods have left in the Sanski Most area.
