Heavy rainfall has caused problems in numerous cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A state of emergency has been declared in 16 local communities in Banja Luka. A state of emergency has been declared in Gradiška, Prijedor, Srbac, Kozarska Dubica and Kostajnica. The floods caused the most damage in the Una-Sana Canton, especially in Sanski Most and Ključ. A state of natural disaster has been declared in Velika Kladuša due to the floods. The situation is also difficult in Čelinac and Laktaši. Given that new rainfall is forecast for today, it is feared that even greater problems could arise.

Water level of the Sana River is falling in Sanski Most

The situation in the Sanski Most area is better this morning compared to the previous day.

According to information from the Civil Protection, the water level of the Sana River was constantly falling last night and estimates are that the water level has already fallen by about 30 cm compared to the highest point reached.

The problem is groundwater, which has threatened some city households, but it has also been receding since the morning. Further developments in the situation are being monitored and will depend on weather conditions, reports RTV Sana.

River levels rising in Novi Grad

The water levels of the Una and Sana rivers in Novi Grad are still rising, the local Information Center said.

This morning at 6:00 a.m., the water level of the Una River was 526 centimeters, which is 28 centimeters higher than last night at 7:00 p.m., while the water level of the Sana River this morning is 558 centimeters, which is 30 centimeters higher than last night.

Several households have been flooded.

Emergency declared in Kostajnica, Kozarska Dubica and Srbac

A flood emergency has been declared in Kostajnica, Kozarska Dubica and Srbac.

A state of emergency was declared in the municipality of Kostajnica this morning and sirens sounded after the water level of the Una River exceeded 450 centimeters. Some residential and auxiliary buildings and basements, as well as weekend houses on the banks of the Una, were flooded. The water level of the Una at 8:00 a.m. was 466 centimeters and is rising more slowly.

A state of emergency was declared in Kozarska Dubica this morning due to the rise in the Una water level, which is 459 centimeters. Around 50 households have been flooded due to torrential flows and the rise in the Una River. The rise in the Una water level during the night caused flooding in the settlements of Špilja and Ševarlije, where 10 households are at risk. The Emergency Situations Headquarters will be in constant session and visiting the field, and assistance will be provided to the population threatened by floods.

A state of emergency has been declared in the Srbac municipality due to the danger of endangering people and material goods due to heavy rainfall and floods that have affected this local community. The state of emergency was declared last night by the mayor of the municipality, Mlađan Dragosavljević, and the decision was made at a session of the Emergency Situations Headquarters, at which it was noted that at least 80 houses in the municipality have been flooded, of which water has entered several households. The fact that the water level of the Sava River near Srbac is constantly rising, which last night was 806 centimeters, which is 54 centimeters lower than the level at which regular flood protection measures were declared, is causing concern.

Around 350 buildings flooded in Prijedor

Around 350 buildings, residential and auxiliary, were flooded or flooded in Prijedor during the night, the City Administration announced.

Firefighters carried out 12 evacuations, two families were temporarily accommodated in the “Prijedor” hotel as emergency accommodation.

The water level of the Sana and Gomjenica rivers rose during the night and the rivers overflowed into the settlements of Gomjenica and Tukovi, where a wider area was flooded.

Due to problems caused by the flood, electricity was cut off in some of the flooded settlements. The Prijedor “Vodovod” announced that the water was safe for drinking.

The water level of the Sana during the night was 512 centimeters, currently it is 508 centimeters and has a tendency to fall. The level of regular flood defense is 420, and the level of emergency flood defense is 460 centimeters.

Stabilization of water levels in the Banja Luka area

The situation regarding the water levels of rivers in the Banja Luka area is stabilizing.

A state of emergency has been declared in Laktaši, Gradiška and Čelinac due to the rise in river water levels. Water levels are declining.

Road communication from Srbac to Derventa, which was interrupted, has been restored.
