male-female-equalityInstitute for Youth Development KULT convened yesterday in Sarajevo for the final conference ‘Rob u trouglu moći’ (rob in triangle of power) as part of the program ‘gender legal budget for youth’ that is being implemented in Croatia, Serbia and B&H.

‘’The topic of the conference is gender accountability in the triangle of power: gender responsible authority, gender responsible civil sector, gender responsible private sector and gender responsible marketing and media’’, said the President of the Economic Faculty Selma Kadić-Maglajlić.

She added that through four segments, they presented gender accountability, and emphasized why it is necessary for all to be included.

Representative of the Agency for Gender Equality in B&H Samra Filipović-Hadžiabdić  said that gender accountability in B&H is not yet perceived as an important issue, because citizens of B&H are still ‘counted by nationality’.

‘’We still cannot say that the executive and legislative branches have politicians who obey the law, because some laws are more important than others. The law on gender equality belongs to the less important ones’’, said Filipović-Hadžiabdić.

She added that the B&H Council of Ministers is evidence, where there are no female ministers.

‘’When it comes to legislation we follow the European trend. However, in the executive branch lies the greatest power’’, she added.

Representative of UN Women Anne-Marie Esper Larsen said that it is very important to include young people and direct them towards achieving greater gender equality.

‘’Young people are brave, because they dare to examine the constitutional practices and policies. It is not an easy job to be engaged as a gender advocate in a post-conflict society and transitional problems’’, she added.
